Ceremonial cacao and cacao powder may sound similar, but they’re very different in quality, processing, and benefits:

Quality & Sourcing: Most cacao powder comes from mass-produced, low-grade beans with little traceability or fair compensation for farmers. Our ceremonial cacao is sourced ethically, with full transparency and organic, regenerative practices.

Processing & Nutrients: Cacao powder is usually processed at very high temperatures, which diminishes many of the natural antioxidants, minerals, and beneficial compounds. Some powders also undergo alkalization (dutch processing), further stripping away their value. Our ceremonial cacao is crafted at low temperatures to preserve the bean’s natural integrity.

Whole Food vs. Isolated Powder: A cacao bean is naturally rich in cacao butter, a healthy fat that helps your body absorb cacao’s nutrients. Powder is created by pressing out most of this fat and without it, many of cacao’s benefits are lost. Ceremonial cacao keeps the bean whole with nothing added, nothing removed, so you experience cacao as it was meant to be.

Cacao naturally contains a very small amount of caffeine, closer to a microdose than a cup of coffee. What makes it unique is that it’s also rich in theobromine and other compounds that create a smooth, sustained lift in energy and mood. Instead of the jitters and crash often linked with coffee, ceremonial cacao provides a gentle, balanced focus that supports both body and mind.

1. Set your space – Find a quiet, comfortable spot and create an intention for your ceremony (reflection, gratitude, or focus).

2. Prepare the cacao – Use 15-25 discs (or around .5-1 oz) of ceremonial cacao per person. Gently melt it in hot water or milk, stirring slowly.

3. Mindful drinking – Sip the cacao slowly, noticing the aroma, flavor, and sensations. Breathe deeply and focus on your intention. Try to open your mind and your heart.

4. Optional additions – You can add a meditation, journaling, music, or gentle movement to enhance the experience.

5. Close the ceremony – Take a moment of gratitude, reflection, or intention-setting before returning to your day.
